Salukis Give Up Season-High Seven Goals in Loss to Ohio

The first and only Ohio goal of the first half came in the match's 38th minute by way of Tristan Whalen, her first of the year. Heading into the break, the Bobcats were outshooting the Salukis 11-1, in addition to holding the advantage in corner kicks by a 3-1 margin.
The second half saw the Bobcats tack on their second and third goals of the game within the first five minutes to jump out to a 3-0 lead with 35 minutes to play.
Ohio added their fourth goal of the afternoon in the 59th minute off of Olivia Page's first goal of the season. A fifth goal would come nearly four minutes later, before Ohio added their final two goals in the last 11 minutes of play.
The seven goals scored by the Bobcats tied the second-most in school history and was the most in a single game since Oct. 22, 2000.
Freshman Dariana Mihalache got the start and surrendered five goals in 73 minutes of action, but was able to collect nine saves along the way. Fellow freshman goalie Maddy Alaluf defended the goal for the final 16 minutes, giving up two goals and recording two saves in that span.
As a team, the Salukis were outshot 25-5 and trailed in corner kicks by a margin of 7-2. SIU trailed in the possession total, as the Bobcats had the ball nearly 57% of the time in the match.
Up Next: The Salukis will return to action when they travel to face the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (2-2-1) on Friday, Sept. 13.
