
Salukis return home to face Illinois State and Bradley

Southern takes on Illinois State on Friday before tangling with first-place Bradley on Sunday.
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team returns home this weekend to close out the first half of Missouri Valley Conference play. The Salukis, winners of three-straight, will take on Illinois State on Friday at 6 p.m. before tangling with first-place Bradley on Sunday at 2 p.m. Friday's game can be viewed on ESPN3 while Saturday's tilt will be broadcast on ESPN+. Both games can be heard locally on Magic 95.1 FM.
Promotions
vs. Illinois State - SIU will wear special black jerseys as part of the Black Out Cancer initiative. Fans bid for the rights to put a name on the back of a jersey, many times placing the name of a loved one affected by cancer. Winning bidders get to keep the game-worn jerseys. All proceeds go to Southern Illinois Healthcare's Coach Kill Fund.
vs. Bradley - Sunday's contest is High Tops and Heels day. First 50 fans will receive free wine glasses while Saluki-themed home decor will be on sale around the concourse.
All-Time vs. the Redbirds
• The Salukis and the Redbirds will meet for the 112th time in a rivalry that dates back to 1962.
• Illinois State leads the all-time series, 62-49.
• The Redbirds have won four-straight in the series, with SIU's last win coming at home on Feb. 24, 2017; a 57-48 win.
• Three of the last four meetings between the two teams have been decided by three points or fewer.
All-Time Series vs. Bradley
• The Salukis and the Braves will meet for the 78th time in a rivalry that dates back to 1983.
• Southern leads the all-time series, 51-26.
• SIU won 27-straight games against Bradley to open the rivalry, which, at the time, was the fourth-longest winning streak against one team in the nation.
• The Braves returned the favor winning 22 of the next 27 games.
• Southern has won nine of the last 10 meetings against Bradley, including a 62-55 win at Banterra Center on Feb. 15, 2019.
Comeback win
• Southern overcame a 13-point third quarter deficit to rally for 13 point win at Evansville, 70-57 on Jan. 24.
• It was SIU's fifth-straight win over the Aces. The Purple Aces went ahead 45-32 with 3:41 remaining in the third quarter, but the Salukis completed the comeback by outscoring Evansville, 28-8 in the fourth quarter.
• It was the largest third quarter deficit that SIU has overcome since it rallied from down 18 to defeat Indiana State in the opening round of the MVC Tournament on March 9, 2018.
• It also marked the first time in the quarters era (since 2015-16 season) that the Salukis have trailed by double-digits and went on to win by double-digits.
Nice to see you again
• Andrea Gorski spent three seasons, from 2013-16, as SIU's associate head coach under Cindy Stein.
• She was part of the largest single-season turnaround in program history, as well as SIU's first postseason appearance since 2007.
• As a player, Gorski was winless (0-9) against the Salukis, as she ran up against some of the best teams in Saluki history, which included the 1991-92 Salukis that won the program's second-ever NCAA Tournament game.
• Gorski notched her first career win over the Salukis in the 58-53 overtime win on Jan. 20.
Peoria's finest
• Cindy Stein, who was inducted into the IBCA Hall of Fame later this year in honor of her prep career at Peoria Richwoods, is 16-2 all-time vs. the Braves, including 10-2 while at SIU.
• Stein was an assistant coach at Bradley from 1988-93.
Big 4th quarter
• Southern outscored Evansville, 28-8 in the fourth quarter of its 70-57 win on Jan. 24.
• SIU's 28 fourth quarter points are its most in a fourth quarter of a MVC road game in school history.

• The Salukis won their third-straight Valley game with a commanding 78-55 win at Indiana State on Jan. 26.
