Salukis Fare Well At Final Day Of Indiana Relays

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Southern Illinois University closed out the Indiana Relays with eight top-five finishes, including one top-10 all-time finisher on day two inside the Gladstein Fieldhouse.
"I think the team is working hard towards achieving our ultimate goal," said Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Rosalind Joseph. "I see our growth. I see our competitiveness. I feel really good about how we keep continuing to prepare for each meet. Now, we just need to continue to stack those on top of one another and continue to push towards conference."
Kira Williams got Southern off to a good start on the day in the pentathlon, as the senior took sixth in the 60 meter hurdles, fourth in the high jump, eighth in the shot put, third in the long jump and second in the 800 meter run en route to placing third overall in the event with 3,519 points, a new lifetime-best. The Topeka, Kansas native had competed in two prior pentathlons, but never eclipsed the 3,400 point mark before today. Indiana's Hope Purcell took home first after finishing with 3,649 points.
Heading over to the women's triple jump, freshman Britney Mosby placed fourth after clearing a personal-best 11.79 meters (38'-8.25"), while classmate Trinity Daniels took sixth with her PR jump of 11.52 meters (37'-9.5").
SIU alum and current volunteer coach Kyle Landon tied for first with Indiana's Jyles Etienne in the high jump with a mark of 2.21 meters (7'-03"). Willie Rodgers took third after clearing a lifetime-best mark of 2.12 meters (6'-11.5"), placing him half an inch short of cracking SIU's top-10 for the event. Also competing in the event for the Salukis was Caleb Vogel, who took seventh with his mark of 2.02 meters (6'-7.5"), newcomer Dawson Plab in 14th and Trevor Thompson in 17th.
In the pole vault, Erin Diemer placed 12th after clearing 3.50 meters (11'-5.75"), while freshman Alexandra Hennessey took 17th with a top mark of 3.35 meters (10'-11.75").
In the circle, the shot putters saw some success, as Clint Meyer took fifth with his toss of 18.76 meters (61'-6.75") in his third meet of the season. Ricky Hurley placed ninth after throwing for a season-best mark of 17.21 meters (56'5.75"). Also competing in the event was Peyton Taylor, who placed 16th.
In the women's shot put, A'veun Moore-Jones took seventh with a toss of 15.39 meters (50'-06"), with junior Kayleigh Conlon placing one spot behind in eighth. BriYanna Robinson set a new PR with her toss of 13.83 meters (45'-4.5"), good for 13th overall. Rounding out the Salukis in the event was Sian Person, who took 14thafter tossing for 13.79 meters (45'-03").
In the men's 60 meter hurdles, senior Jaylen Galloway set a lifetime-best with a time of 8.34 seconds, placing him 10th on the SIU top-10 list. Solomon Wilson-Smith finished one spot behind Galloway in fourth, crossing the finish line in 8.41 seconds, while Kyle Lind took sixth.
On the track, Madison Meyer took 11th in the 400 meter finals, while Savannah Long took 18th. Corey Sherrod took 11th in the same event, while Terry Simuel finished a spot behind in 12th.
Megan Krolak took 29th in the 3,000 meter fast sections with a time of 10:31.45.
Closing out the meet was the 4x400 meter relay teams, which saw Southern's women take ninth after finishing in 3:59.74, while the men took 10th after completing the race in 3:21.49.

The Salukis will have the next weekend off from competition before heading down to Nashville, Tennessee to take part in the Vanderbilt Music City Challenge on Fec. 14-15.
