
Salukis head to Iowa to take on Drake, Northern Iowa

The second half of Valley play gets underway Friday night at Drake.
CARBONDALE, Ill. — The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team heads to Iowa this weekend to take on the Drake Bulldogs on Friday, Feb. 7 (6 p.m.) followed by Sunday's contest at Northern Iowa (2 p.m.). The Salukis are winners of four of their last five after last Sunday's 64-50 win over Bradley. Both of this weekend's games can be viewed on ESPN+ and can be heard locally on Magic 95.1 FM.
All-Time Series vs. Drake
- The Salukis and the Bulldogs will meet for the 90th time Friday.
- Drake leads the all-time series 61-28.
- The Bulldogs have won nine-straight in the series and 13 of the last 15.
- The Bulldogs hold a 34-7 record over the Salukis on their home floor.
- SIU's 77-67 win over Drake at the Knapp Center on Jan. 1, 2016 was its first win in Des Moines, Iowa since the 2006-07 season.
- Drake has won 21 of the last 23 meetings against the Salukis on their home court.
All-Time Series vs. the Panthers
- The Salukis and the Panthers will meet for the 77th time Sunday, with UNI holding a 42-34 advantage in the all-time series.
- UNI has won four-straight in the series.
- Southern's last win in the series came at home on Jan. 5, 2018- a 60-53 overtime win.
- The Panthers are 22-14 all-time against the Salukis on their home floor.
- Southern's first-ever win at the McLeod Center came on Jan. 3, 2016 - a 65-60 win.
Back on the winning track
- The Salukis picked up a 64-50 win over then first-place Bradley on Sunday, Feb. 2.
- The Braves, who came into the contest averaging 72.2 points per game, were held to a season-low 50 points.
- Southern forced Bradley into 19 turnovers, trailed just once and led by as many as 17 points.
Taking care of the ball
- The Salukis turned the ball over a season-low eight times in the win over Bradley on Feb. 2.
- It was the fewest turnovers for Southern since its 80-60 win at Evansville on March 9, 2019.
- Southern has committed the fewest total turnovers (292) in the Missouri Valley Conference and their 14.6 turnovers per game are also the fewest per game in the Valley.
- SIU's win over Bradley marked the 17th time during Coach Stein's tenure that the Salukis have finished with single-digit turnovers. Southern holds an 11-6 (.647) record in those games with four of the six losses coming by four points or fewer.
- Since 1985, SIU holds a .674 winning percentage (29-14) in games where it turns the ball over nine times or fewer.
Active Hands
- Southern tied a season-high with 16 steals in the win over Bradley. SIU also recorded 16 steals against Drake on Jan. 12.
- It is the third-most steals by a MVC team against a DI opponent this season.
- Brittney Patrick's career-high six steals against the Braves are tied for the third-most in a game in the Valley this season.
- SIU's 16 steals are tied for its most in a game since the 2009-10 season (1/2/10; vs. Evansville).
Another 20 piece
- Makenzie Silvey had a terrific game on both ends of the floor for the Salukis in the win over the Bradley Braves.
- She finished with a game-high 26 points on 10-of-18 shooting and added four boards, three assists and two steals.
- It marked the eighth time this season that the Glen Carbon, Ill. native has scored 20-plus points in a game, the most 20-point games in a season by a Saluki since 2015.
- Overall, its tied for the 13th-most in a season in program history. Amy Rakers holds the school record for most 20-point games in a single-season, 19, which came during the 1989-90 season.
15-plus assists
- Southern dished out 19 assists in the win over Bradley Sunday.
- It marked the 11th time this season that the Salukis have finished with 15-plus assists in a game.
- It also makes it six-straight seasons that SIU has dished out 15-plus assists in double-digit games, which is the longest streak by the Salukis since at least 1989.
- SIU recorded 26 assists on 30 field goals in the win over Indiana State on Jan. 26.
- SIU's 26 assists were not only a season-high, but are tied for the sixth-most in a game in school history and are its most since March 4, 2017.
Climbing up the charts
• Nicole Martin scored six points in the win over Bradley and she is now 18 points shy of passing her former teammate, Kylie Giebelhausen, for ninth on SIU's all-time scoring list.
- Martin is the fifth Saluki during the Stein era to crack the Top-10 in scoring in program history. Martin joins Cartaesha Macklin (1st; 1,779), Rishonda Napier (2nd; 1,728), Dyana Pierre (7th; 1,425) and Kylie Giebelhausen (9th; 1,298) in that club.
- Martin is also just the sixth player in program history, and first since Amy Rakers in 1991, to tally 1200 points/600 rebounds/100 steals/50 blocks in a career. In addition to Rakers, Martin joins Mary Berghuis, Sue Faber, Char Warring and Bridgett Bonds as the only Salukis to accomplish that feat.

Dishing out helpers
• Brittney Patrick dished out six assists without committing a turnover in the win over Bradley and ranks ninth on SIU's all-time assists list with 344.
• Patrick ranks fourth in the conference in both total assists (85) and assists per game (4.3).
• Patrick is just the 13th player in program history with 300 assists/100 steals in a career.

- Nicole Martin came away with three steals in the win over Bradley to become the fourth active Saluki to reach the century mark for career steals. Martin is the 34th Saluki all-time to reach the milestone.
- Brittney Patrick was the first Saluki this season to do so with her two steals against Murray State, while Makenzie Silvey joined the club during SIU's win over Northern Illinois. Kristen Nelson was the third Saluki to reach the milestone this season with her three steals at Loyola.

- Abby Brockmeyer is two rebounds shy of 600 for her career.
- She will become just the 16th Saluki to reach the milestone. Her current 7.4 rebounds per game average is the 10th-highest in school history.
- Brockmeyer is also eight blocks shy of becoming the fifth Saluki in program history with 100-plus career blocks.
