Salukis Head to NCAA Midwest Regional

CARBONDALE, Ill. – The men's and women's cross country teams will head to Iowa City, Iowa to take part in the 2021 NCAA Midwest Regional Championship, hosted by the University of Iowa on Friday, Nov. 12.
This will be the first time the Salukis have competed in a NCAA Regional in nearly two years, due to last year's competition being cancelled due to Covid-19. This year's races will be held on the campus of the University of Iowa at the Ashton Cross Country Course. A total of 35 teams will be taking part in the Midwest Regional, with qualifying teams/individuals getting the chance to advance to the NCAA Championships. The competition will be stiff with three women's opponents being ranked inside the top-25 of the USTFCCA National Coaches Poll; along with three men's opponents also ranking within the top-25. The women's 6K will kick off the event with 11:00 am CT start time, followed by the men's 10K which will run at 12:00 pm CT.
The Saluki cross country teams are coming off of the MVC Championships which ran two weeks ago at Illinois State University. The women's team placed fourth in that competition with Kayla Schiera leading the way. Schiera took 5th overall with a PR time of 21:10.52 earning her All-Conference honors. Stephanie Anthonies(16th), Claire Ayers(19th), and Josie Brown(22nd) all also ran PR's and finished within the top-25 to give the Salukis their best team finish since 2014. On the men's side, the team finished 5th overall, just 4 points shy of overtaking host school ISU for 4th place. Ethan Senti finished 10th in the men's race with a tie of 24:54.7 to earn him All-Conference honors as well. Finishing directly behind Senti were SIU's own Dawson Smith (11th/25:03.0) and Noah McIntyre (12th/25:06.7). Smith and McIntyre were awarded All-Conference Honorable Mention for their top-15 finishes.
