DES MOINES, Iowa -- Southern Illinois' women's soccer team remained scoreless with the Bulldogs of Drake in double-overtime in Des Moines on an overcast and rain-filled Sunday afternoon. The Salukis battled in improvement, out-shooting and on-goal to the Bulldogs in the first half, while keeper Maddy Alaluf remained a wall for SIU with four saves in the match.
Sophomore forward/defender, Emma Spotak came right out from the start to shoot for the Salukis in the 15th minute, taking the ball just out to the left and giving Southern the first corner kick of the match and a chance to bring in the attack to the Bulldogs.
Kaitlin DuCharme, the forward from Rochester Hills, Michigan, held the most shots and shots-on-goal for the Salukis. The sophomore attacked with her first shot-on-goal to the bottom left corner of Drake's goal at the 27-minute mark and kept moving, finishing the 110 match-up with four shots, two on-goal, her second-highest in a game this season and leading the Dawgs in shots with 14 in five games.
Sophomore Alaluf was the top defender for SIU, assisted in strong blocking by Hailey Blanchard and Georgina Franco, the keeper made saves on the ground and tipped a shot from one hand in the 77th minute of the match. Alaluf's saves percentage (.875) ranks her second in the Valley with 4.3 saves per game average this season.
This was the Salukis third scoreless double-overtime draw in the season, bringing their season record to 0-2-3 with four more matches left on the calendar.
After a week off from contests, SIU is back at home next Sunday, March 21 where the Salukis battle the Panthers of Northern Iowa at Lew Hartzog Complex at 1pm.
