
Women edge Indiana State, Ball State

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- With a narrow, 151-149 team tally to Indiana State, the Saluki women's swimming and diving program overtakes the Sycamores in Terre Haute, while out-swimming Ball State, 184-115 in tri-meet action on Friday afternoon. In a spread meet event winners, the Salukis took the first relay of the afternoon and five individual events, including freshman Mima Zaborska beating her own school record for the third time this season, in the 200-breaststroke (2:13.33).

Freshman diver Ally Brown performed her second-season best on the one-meter board, finishing in second place with a score of 226.40.
Breaking her own school record previously set from last week, newcomer Mima Zaborska took home a three-peat for the Dawgs on Friday, earning wins in the 100-breaststroke (1:02.29), setting a career-best in the 200-individual medley (2:03.95), and swimming faster in the 200-breaststroke to hold the SIU school record at 2:13.33.
In her fourth first-place title in the 100-freestyle event this season, senior Sierra Forbord garnered more points for the Salukis at 51.07.
On the young talent of the Saluki women, freshman Gaby Jenkins swam a career-best 24.01 in the 50-freestyle race, earning second. Jenkins also rang up points for the Dawgs in the 100-freestyle behind teammate Forbord, in third with a 51.88 finish.
With a narrow second place finish, the relay A squad of Romero, Watson, Jenkins, and Forbord completed the 200-freestyle relay at 1:34.68, while Saluki relay B (Desmet, Scheiblein, Jager, Young) clocked in behind at 1:37.19.
Distance swimmer Eden Girloanta, settled for a third place finish in the 1000-freestyle but set a season-best in the event, clocking in at 10:23.76 -- just .01 faster than last week's event.

With a quick turnaround, the women are back in the pool at home tomorrow, inside Shea Natatorium to face Valparaiso and Eastern Illinois for the final meet of the regular season at 2pm.
