
Saluki Men find Victory, Women edged by Missouri State

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- For the first time since 2006, the Saluki Men's swimming and diving program inched their way in success, against reigning MAC Champions Missouri State on Saturday morning inside Shea Natatorium, 176-173 team points, built up from taking the lead in both relays. Although the women's 200-medley relay squad squeezed past to bring another broken record in the first event of the morning, the team dropped to the Bears, 153-195.

Women's Team:
Salukis battled for points, taking spots 2, 3, 4 in the 50-freestyle. Freshman Gaby Jenkins led the pack in second, clocking in at 24.13, followed by junior Abbey Desmet (24.44) and freshman Madi Jager (24.71).
Freshman Ally Brown finished second for the Dawgs on the three-meter with 255.45, her best of the season.
The 200-medley relay squad of Romero, Zaborska, Watson, and Forbord clocked in a new school record while taking second to Missouri State, taking the head by .22 at 1:41.06.
The women saw power in high places in the 100-backstroke, 2020 MVC Freshman of the Year Lucia Romero garnered the top spot (55.75), followed by senior transfer Imogen Watson (56.47), and in the #4 spot, junior Deven Speed (57.02).
Men's Team:
The men took the top four spots in the 50-freestyle, with only the top three being scored. Freshman Marc Avery brought in his new personal record and a top spot with 20.28, followed by freshman Donat Csuvarszki (20.67), junior Zander Minano (20.80), and freshman Will Chavez (21.25).Â
In a big neck and neck race, sophomore Adam Cernek secures another first place title in the 100-backstroke (49.03), out swimming MSU's Robbie Hill on the last leg. Freshman John Cameron swam for third, finishing in 52.98 seconds and earning a personal best.
In a race for the top spot, Cernek battled in the 400-IM against the Bears'  Dylan Moffatt, falling slightly short on the 25 yard finale and settling for second (3:57.98). Following him in adding points for the men were freshman Sam Flessner in third (4:07.53), and junior Drake Manuello in fourth (4:14.11).
Taking both relay events, the squad of Cernek, Persson, Minano, Yeap timed at 1:30.13 in the 200-medley and the 400-free relay, ran by Csuvarszki, Chavez, Yeap, Avery finished the morning with an event win for the Salukis at 3:01.08.

The Salukis are staying home in Carbondale, hosting the first tri-meet of the year with Valparaiso and the women of Arkansas-Little Rock on Friday, March 12 at 1pm.
