LAWRENCE, Kan. – Senior pole vaulter Erin Diemer vaulted her way up the record books as the Salukis closed out the regular season at the Rock Chalk Classic on Saturday on the campus of the University of Kansas.
"This weekend we had a really great meet," said Director of T&F/XC Rosalind Joseph. "A lot of great performances and things are really clicking at the right time."
Diemer, the Shelbyville, Ind., native recorded the massive personal best on her fourth attempt; a mark of 4.11m (13'-5.75") that placed her second on the SIU top-10 list. Entering competition today, Diemer's new PR would stand as the best mark in the Missouri Valley Conference this season. Diemer's previous career best was 3.91m (12'-10"), which stood as the seventh-best mark in program history.
While Diemer's mark placed her second all-time at SIU, four other Salukis recorded top-10 marks on the second day of the meet. Savannah Long clocked in the seventh-fastest 100-meter hurdle time in program history, as the DeKalb, Ill., native finished at a time of 13.74.
Joining Long on a top-10 list was Kyle Lind, who finished the 110-meter hurdles at 13.98 seconds, which stands as the eighth-fastest time in program history. Entering competition today, Lind's time is the only sub-14 second time in the Missouri Valley this season.
Kayleigh Conlon recorded the third Saluki top-10 mark after launching the 10th-furthest shot put throw in program history; a mark of 15.85m (52') that broke the senior throwers PR by nearly 10 inches. Clint Meyer, competing in the shot put, recorded the final Saluki top-10 mark after improving on his ninth-best shot put mark; connecting on a throw of 18.15m (59'-6.75").
The Salukis will now shift their focus to the Missouri Valley Conference Championships, held at the Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex in Carbondale on May 14-16.
"We received word on the drive here that the first round of the championship will expand back to its original 48 people per event," said Joseph. "This significantly impacts our student-athletes and expands then discussion for the rest of this season. After the year we've all had, it's nice to be at this point!"
