Two Salukis Named CSCAA Scholar All-Americans

Richmond, VA -- The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) named 789 student-athletes to its Scholar All-American Team for the 2020-21 season. Earning this honor for the Salukis were junior Adam Cernek and sophomore Mima Zaborska, after they both earned a GPA of 3.50 or higher and achieved a "B" time standard for the national championship.

Cernek's first two seasons in Carbondale have already been memorable. After being named the Freshman Swimmer of the Year and Conference Co-Swimmer of the Year at the 2020 Mid-American Conference Championships, the Slovakia native broke his own school record en route to victory in the 200-backstroke at the 2021 MAC Championships, as well as being named First Team All-Conference. Cernek is a Civil & Environmental Engineering major.

Zaborska was named the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman Swimmer of the Year in her debut season with the Salukis. The Slovakia native won the 200-individual medley, 100-breaststroke, and 200-breaststroke at the 2021 Missouri Valley Conference Championships, breaking her own previously-set school records in the latter two events. Zaborska was also named First Team All-Conference, helping the Salukis to a second place finish at the MVC Championship. Zaborska is a Chemistry major.

This was also the 34th-consecutive year that Southern Illinois University was named to the CSCAA Scholar All-America list for achieving a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.
