
Salukis Fall In Season Opener, 0-2

MARTIN, Tenn. – The Saluki Women's Soccer program opened their 2021 season on Thursday night with a road matchup against the Skyhawks of UT Martin. The Salukis dropped to the Skyhawks with a 0-2 result in their first official action of the season.
The Salukis and Skyhawks carried a scoreless draw into halftime after the first 45 minutes of play. The first half of the match was dominated by possession with limited scoring opportunities coming for either team. Coming out of halftime, Junior Emma Spotak had two of the best scoring chances for the Salukis, however both attacking runs were well defended by the UT Martin back line and goalkeeper Erica Meyers. The scoreless game was broken in the 58th minute when Skyhawk freshman Mikayla Robinson was able to push a ball past Saluki goalkeeper Maddy Alaluf. UT Martin was able to extend the lead to 2-0 with a goal in the 75th minute by senior Jaden Hildreth.
The Salukis return to action on Sunday, August 22 at 1 PM as they travel south to matchup against the Lions of North Alabama. SIU will return to Lew Hartzog Track & Field Complex for their home opener next Friday, August 27, when they take on the Roos of Kansas City.
