
Dawgs Set for Senior Day in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois (0-5-1)Â closes out their non-conference home matches against the Knights of Bellarmine (0-0-5), Sunday afternoon at Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex. Sunday will be the Salukis' senior day, recognizing seniors Kathryn Creedon, Ellie Lewis, Kailyn Stone, and Maya Warrior. The match is free to the public, fans are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, while live stats will be posted here.
A Look at Last Game:Â Sophomore Sam Dodd led SIU with 2 shots to the Cougar net in the Salukis' 0-5 loss to SIUE on Thursday evening. Freshman Ary Lougher garnered the start in goal, notching two saves before junior Maddy Alaluf took over and brought the Dawgs' saves to six in the match.
So far in 2021:Â Southern Illinois opened up scoring in the 2-3 loss to Kansas City in their home opener, bringing in four shots-on-goal to SIU and fell starting last weekend to highly notarized Vanderbilt, 0-5 and losing 0-4 to Lipscomb on Sunday in another heavy-midfield match with keeper Ary Lougher earning her first collegiate start. On Thursday, SIU was upended by SIUE, 0-5.
Scouting Bellarmine: The Knights opened up their first season in the Division I era 2-6-3 (2-3-3 ASUN), falling to Kennesaw State 0-1, in the ASUN Tournament for the 2020-21 season. Bellarmine brought in conference wins against Liberty (1-0) and North Alabama (1-0).
Saluki head coach Grant Williams holds close ties to Bellarmine, having been on staff with Knights head coach Chris Tinus at Western Kentucky and coaching him in high school. The first match between SIU and Bellarmine, the Knights have posted a rare 0-0-5 record thus far in 2021, only having gone to scoreless double-overtime draws against Northern Kentucky and Miami of Ohio.
From the Preseason: The Salukis compiled a 0-1-2 record in 2021 exhibition matches, allowing only three goals. Sophomore Ashlyn Henrie has shined in her second season with SIU so far, recording one goal and one assist in the three games. The Dawgs opened exhibition play on Wednesday, drawing 1-1 to Southeast Missouri, while falling to UIC 0-1 on Friday, and turning up another 1-1 draw to Belmont in exhibition. Four freshmen and seven of ten Saluki newcomers saw action in the preseason.
Up in the Ranks: Junior keeper Maddy Alaluf holds steady at fifth in the Missouri Valley in shutouts this season (1), while freshman Ashley Scesniak tops the Salukis with seven shots and tied with teammate junior forward Emma Spotak with three shots-on-goal this season. Both Scesniak and Spotak have the goals in the book.
