Women’s Golf Tied for Seventh After First Day of MVC Championship

KIRKWOOD, Mo. — The Southern Illinois women's golf team is tied for seventh place after carding 314 (+30) in Sunday's opening round of the 2022 Missouri Valley Conference Championship at Greenbriar Hills Country Club. Indiana State leads the field with a score of 304 (+20).
SIU battled through a rainy afternoon, with temperatures in the low 50s. Janie Samattiyadeekul leads the Salukis after firing a first day score of 77 (+6), tied for 10th overall. Moyea Russell, Rosemarie Bundy, and Kylee Vaughan are all tied for 25th with a score of 79 (+8). Ayanna Habeel rounds out the score for Southern Illinois with an opening round score of 84 (+13).
Due to potential frost in the morning, the Salukis will tee off an hour later on Monday at 9:00 a.m. CT for the second round of 18 holes. The weather forecast calls for partly cloudy skies in the morning giving way to sunshine in the afternoon with a high of 56F and northwest winds at 15 to 25 mph.
