Evanston, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois swimming and diving team competed strongly against Power Five opponents Northwestern and Miami (FL) on Saturday. However, both the men's and women's teams came up short in Evanston.Â
Â
"It was very exciting to have the opportunity to race two top-level teams on Saturday. While we didn't have the depth to pull out the dual meet wins, we had countless phenomenal performances. Olivia Herron and Celia Pulido both posting NCAA "B" standards and top 25 times individually, two men's relays posting top 20 times nationally" head coach Geoff Hanson said.
Â
Olivia Herron once again had a first place finish in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:12.19 putting her in the NCAA "B" standard. Celia Pulido  competed strongly for the women as well in her events, especially the 100 backstroke where she finished second with a time of 53.76 putting her in the NCAA "B" group as well. Both Herron and Pulido are currently holding the school records for the 200 breaststroke and 100 backstroke. Their times this weekend set new top ten times in those events for Southern Illinois.Â
Â
On the men's side Alex Santiago , Alex Cimera , Nicolas Lanuza and Donat Csuvarszki were once again victorious in the men's 200 medley relay. They finished first with a time of 1:27.67. Donat Csuvarszki also finished first in the men's 50 freestyle with a time of 20.20.Â
Â
"Six total event wins and numerous lifetime bests show us that we are right on track to accomplish our team goals for the fall semester" said Hanson.Â
