Samattiyadeekul Finishes Tied For Fourth
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. — Salukis wrapped up their only home event this season at Dalhousie Country Club by finishing third as a team, while Janie Samattiyadeekul added another top five finish to her career, finishing in a tie for fourth with a score of 223 (+7). The Southern Illinois B team finished above two other teams in the field for a fifth place finish.
Samattiyadeekul didn't have her best round on the final day of the Saluki Invitational, but shooting even par over the first two rounds kept her in the top five on the player leaderboard. She shot 79 (+7) for her final round with three birdies.
Other top performers for SIU were Secilia Ho and Kayla Sayyalinh, shooting a team best for the final round of 73 (+1). Their final round score was tied for the third best individual score of the day.
Two other Salukis finished in the top 20 with Sadie Zorrilla finishing tied for 11th with a tournament score of 230, while Allie Santos finished tied for 17th with a final score of 233.
SIU produced its best round of the tournament on the final day, shooting 305 as a team which was tied for the second-best score in the final round. Only Austin Peay, the Saluki Invitational champion, shot a score under 300 every round in the tournament.
One of the strong parts for the Dawgs in the Saluki Invitational was their success on par threes and fours. SIU posted the second best scores on par threes (+20) and second best scores on par fours (+57) out of the tournament field.
SIU also finished third in the field for most pars in the tournament with 154, while knocking in 23 birdies to help lead the Salukis to a top three team finish.
Despite this being the last home event of the fall season, SIU will have two more competitions before the fall season is complete. The next tournament will be in Hot Springs, Arkansas, on October 22nd-24th for the Little Rock Golf Classic, hosted by Arkansas Little Rock.
