Nashville, Tenn. - Southern Illinois opened its final road trip of the regular season with a win in Nashville as the Salukis took down Belmont in four-sets (17-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-22) for their third-straight win.Â
The win also marked head coach Ed Allen's 700th career win as a head coach at the collegiate level. Allen is in his fifth season at SIU prior to making stops at Alabama, Tulane, Presbyterian (DII) and Anderson (DIII).Â
The Salukis dropped the first set but were able to bounce back and take the next three and avenge their five-set loss to the Bruins earlier this season in Carbondale.Â
Libero Cecilia Bulmahn had a career night as she totaled 36 digs for a new career-high, 12 more than her previous career-high of 24. Bulmahn has had 20 or more digs in all three matches over the Salukis' winning streak.
Anna Jaworski and Nataly Garcia both posted double-doubles as Jaworski led the Salukis with 28 assists to go along with 14 digs defensively. Garcia had her second double-double with 20 or more kills as she had a match-high 21 kills and 12 digs.
Joining Garcia in double-digit kills was Tatum Tornatta (15) and Kelly Franklin (11). Tornatta has now had four-straight matches with 10 or more kills.Â
The Salukis were strong at the net both offensively and defensively as six Salukis got their hands on a block led by Imani Hartfield with seven while Brinley Burdette and Kelly Franklin each totaled four including a solo block from Franklin.
Southern continues its road trip as it heads to Murray State on Saturday for a 5pm first serve.Â
