Shauniece O'Neal Takes First Place, Track & Field Competes in New York

Carbondale, Ill. - The Southern Illinois Track & Field Program competed inside the historic Armory at the Rutgers Scarlet Knights Open this weekend.Â
The only Saluki to tally a first place finish was Shauniece O'Neal throwing 21.98M in the Women's Weight Throw.Â
"The New York Armory is an iconic venue for track and field and it was great to have the athletes run and perform well there," said Director of Track and Field & Cross Country Richard Jones. "We continue to do well, make finals and rewrite the record books here at SIU."Â
Iaunia Pointer built on her impressive indoor season finsihing fifth in the Women's 60M Dash and second in the Women's 200M Dash. She ran times of 7.61 and 23.99 in these events. She was also apart of the Women's 4X400M Relay Team that finished in fourth place. She was accompanied by Miracle Berry, Shavell Riley, and Vashti Grey. They ran a time of 3:52.92.Â
Matisen Ingle also impressed for the Saluki women. She claimed third place in the Women's Weight Throw with a mark of 19.34M.Â
On the men's side Freshmen Xavier Preston continued his dominance. Placing third in the Men's 60M Dash and second in the Men's 200M Dash with times of 6.85 and 21.59. Joshua Delgado also had a solid performance on the track. Running a 1:51.91 in the Men's 800M Dash finishing in second place.Â
Cole Targgart and Daniel Norris both had top-3 finishes of their own. Targgart threw 17.05M in the Men's Shot Put to take home second place. Norris finsihed third in the Men's Weight Throw with a final mark of 18.31M.Â
The Salukis will be back on the road this weekend in Nashville, Tennessee for the Music City Challenge hosted by Vanderbilt.Â
