
Salukis Wrap up 2023 Season at MVCs, Hoisington Named to All-Conference Team

COAL VALLEY, IL. - The Southern Illinois men's golf team wrapped up their 2023 season with a fifth place finish in the MVC Championship. Sophomore Braden Hoisington was named to the 2023 MVC All-Conference Team.Â
Setting marks for the lowest single-round team total at the Missouri Valley Conference Golf Championship since 1998 in each of the first two rounds, the Illinois State men's golf team ran away with the 2023 MVC Championship. This marks the Redbird's sixth conference title and first since 2007.Â
Illinois State's three-round total of 836 distanced themselves from Valparaiso (849), Northern Iowa (856), Bradley (858), Southern Illinois (862), Murray State (862), Evansville (863), Belmont (869), Missouri State (882), and Drake (883).
Hoisington lead the Dawgs throughout the tournament finishing tied for fifth individually. He shot a 70 (-1) in round-three to bring his tournament total to 209 (-4). He carded 10 birdies and 39 pars on the weekend and finished top-10 in par 3 and par 4 scoring.Â
Markus Wilhelmsen also placed inside the top-15 for the Salukis. He finished tied for 14th with a three-round total of 215 (+2). Wilhelmsen placed inside the top-10 in par 5 scoring.Â
Tom Cleaton and Hugo Archer both finished tied for 30th carding three-round totals of 221 (+9). Cleaton recorded the fifth most pars in the tournament field. Archer carded 7 birdies on the weekend, good for third most on the team.Â
Justin Wingerter rounded out the Saluki lineup finishing tied for 40th. He carded a 74 (+3) on Tuesday and finished with a total of 223 (+11). Wingerter finished inside the top-15 in par 3 scoring.Â
