LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Southern Illinois track and field finished the PNC Bank Bellarmine Classic with several promising marks Friday in Louisville.
The Salukis are accustomed to multiple first-place finishes at seemingly every meet, but Director of Track and Field Richard Jones still saw many encouraging signs.
"I think there were some notable performances today that will translate well to the MVC championship. We have had a lot of new faces and it's starting to click a bit."
Track events got the Salukis on the right path early on.
Christian Coleman (second), Daryl Okeke (third) and Nikyan Hodge (sixth) combined to give Southern Illinois three of the top six finishers in the men's 60-meter hurdles. Hodge's time of 6.47 was a personal record.
The Salukis were also impressive in the women's 60-meter dash. Iaunia Pointer (third), Shavell Riley (seventh), and Keyann Wilson (eighth) gave the Salukis three of the top eight finishers.
Xavier Preston got back on track with a first-place victory in the men's 200-meter dash, his second win of the indoor season.
