Recap | Anderson continues historic stretch, Salukis respond well on day two in Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. - Rachel Anderson won her third race of the 2023-24 track and season as Southern Illinois put together a solid day two at the USF Bulls Alumni Invitational Saturday.
"I believe the team performed well and there's some good data to take back to Carbondale and build upon over the next few weeks," Director of Track and Field Richard Jones said.
Jeremiah Hamilton tallied the first top 10 finish of the day for Southern, running a personal-record 48.12 in the 400-meter dash.
Keyann Wilson (sixth, 11.65) and Shavell Riley (eighth, 11,73) each beat personal marks in the women's 100-meter dash.
Xavier Preston took ninth in the men's 100-meter dash with a personal-record time of 10.38.
Rachel Anderson gave Southern Illinois its first victory of the season after running a 6:35.71 in the women's 2000-meter steeplechase, a time that was over 12 seconds faster than the second-fastest mark.
Dawson Smith put together a nice performance of his own, running 5:51.62 and placing third in the men's 2000-meter steeplechase.
Bryson Wilson, Preston, Shane Ashton and Hamilton wrapped the day up with a third-place finish in the 4x400 relay.
