TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Southern Illinois wrapped up its split-squad weekend with some encouraging performances Saturday, April 20. The Salukis sent its top sprinters to the Michael Johnson Invitational at Baylor, and the rest of the team to the Gibson Invitational at Indiana State.
Director of Track and Field Richard Jones was with the team at Baylor. The meet was impacted by cold and rainy weather, which is unusual for Waco, Texas.
"We 'survived' the weekend," Jones said.
Despite the weather and steep competition, some Salukis put together positive marks.
Vashti Grey (56.94) and Bryson Wilson (48.43) both set personal records in the 400-meter dash, while Shavell Riley (11.69) set her own in the 100-meter.
"We have 1 more meet before conference so we would look to rebound and close out the season well," Jones said.
The rest of the team had a fruitful weekend at the Gibson Invitational at Indiana State, and Associate Head Coach Stephani Perkins credited the team's dedication in practice as the reason for success.
Here are the Salukis who achieved season bests and personal records on day two of the Gibson Invitational:
"We've emphasized consistent hard work, intention in training and mental preparation, which are crucial for peaking at the right time," she said.
