SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team (2-11 overall, 0-4 conference) took the loss on Sunday at Missouri State, falling by a final score of 75-37.
SIU shot 21% from the field and 11% from deep in the loss. Every Saluki player was held to single-digit scoring in Springfield, with Alice Curman's nine points representing a team-high.
The Salukis' most field goals made came in the first quarter when they made five of their 14 attempts, but went 0-of-3 from three-point range. Missouri State out-scored SIU, 18-12, in the quarter.
Gift Uchenna scored five points with five rebounds to lead Southern after one.
It was all downhill after the opening 10 minutes for Southern Illinois, as it scored five points on 8% shooting from the field in the second quarter. Tkiyah Nelson made SIU's lone field goal in the second, where the Salukis were out-scored, 15-5.
At the half, Missouri State led, 33-17.
The Lady Bears had their most success offensively in the third quarter, scoring 25 points on 65% field goal shooting. After three, Missouri State had a commanding, 56-29, advantage.
Southern Illinois scored eight points on 1-of-14 shooting from the field in the fourth, leading to a final score of 75-37.
Curman's nine points and two steals were both team high's on Sunday afternoon.
The Salukis will remain on the road for their next game on Thursday, Jan. 16, at Indiana State, with a tip-off time of 6 p.m. (CT).
