DES MOINES, Iowa - In its first game of a four-game road trip, the Southern Illinois University women's basketball team (4-20 overall, 2-13 conference) fell at Drake, 82-40, on Thursday night.
The Salukis found themselves in a hole early, trailing, 27-11, at the end of the first quarter and, 48-20, after the first half. SIU was held to single-digit points in both the second and third quarters.
Southern shot 28.6% from the field, 30.8% from deep, and 80.0% at the free throw line in the loss. On the other end, Drake shot 55.9% from the field, including a 64.7% first quarter and a 69.2% third quarter.
SIU was out-rebounded, 36-24, in the game and also had 19 turnovers as opposed to Drake's 12.
The Salukis did not have a player score in double figures on Thursday.
Senior Tyranny Brown and freshman Isabella Palmqvist led the team with nine points each against the Bulldogs, while Brown also had two steals, three assists, and two three pointer's.
Junior Gift Uchenna's seven rebounds were a team-high, and the forward also had eight points.
The Salukis face a quick turnaround this weekend as they travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa, on Saturday at 2 p.m. to visit Northern Iowa.
