HENDERSON, Nev. – Southern Illinois men's golf finished the Lake Las Vegas Invitational on Wednesday, placing 13th out of 15 teams. The Salukis finished with a score of 896 (+32), and Long Beach State won the tournament
Head coach Justin Fetcho gave his thoughts on the Salukis' performance in Nevada.
"It was a tough week for us, this golf course presents different conditions than we are used to seeing and it really affected us negatively," Fetcho said. "The greens were really firm and a lot of really thin, hard lies and we didn't execute well in that environment."
Fetcho continued "We took a big step forward last week, but we jumped two steps this week, we have to better mentally and controlling our attitude and thoughts," Fetcho said. "We have to get back to keeping things simple and not focusing on the outcome."
Anthony De Schutter was the Salukis' top performer finishing tied for 30th, with a score of 218 (+2). De Schutter started the first round shooting a 71 (-1).
Frank Bellino (IND.) finished the tournament tied for 38th and finished with a score of 220 (+4). Bellino had a strong round two showing shooting 70 (-2).
