Salukis Return to Action, Look to Build on Strong Fall Season

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois men's golf returns to competition for the first time in 2026 on Sunday, Feb. 8, at the Palmas del Mar Collegiate in Puerto Rico.
The Salukis will compete in a strong field that includes Rutgers, Eastern Kentucky, Michigan, Virginia Tech, Austin Peay, Wake Forest, Boston College, UNC Greensboro, Rhode Island, Delaware, Kennesaw State, Wofford, and TCU.
Southern is coming off an extremely successful fall campaign, highlighted by a runner-up finish at the Badger Invitational and a third-place showing at the Wildcat Invitational. The Salukis also placed seventh at the Purdue Fall Invitational in West Lafayette and eighth at the Ka'anapali Classic. Another standout performance came at the Mark Simpson Invitational in Erie, Colorado, where SIU finished fourth and Jaeseung Na broke the program's 18-hole scoring record, helping lead the team to program lows for 18, 36, and 54 holes.
Southern enters the spring ranked 91st nationally and was selected as the preseason favorite to win the Missouri Valley Conference.
Head coach Justin Fetcho's squad has been paced by Anthony De Schutter, who continues to establish himself as one of the premier golfers in the MVC and nationally. The Belgium native became the first Saluki to win three tournaments in a single season with his victory at the Purdue Fall Invitational and has earned MVC Golfer of the Week honors twice this season.
De Schutter's 54-hole score of 205 ranks as the ninth lowest in program history, while his final-round 65 is tied for the fifth-lowest round ever by a Saluki, matching his own school record set on Feb. 10, 2025, at the Hal Williams Collegiate.
The Salukis' lineup this week will feature Anthony De Schutter, Michael Mikus, Jaeseung Na, Blake Saffell, and Ben Keil, with Frank Bellino, Lucas Lasley, and Oliver Ulrich also competing.
