CARBONDALE, Ill. – Last week was a major one for Southern Illinois athletics. Not only did soccer continue their season, but three other sports began their 2025 seasons as well.
Soccer (5-1-0, 0-0-0)
Dory Latenser kicked off soccer's week by earning the honor of Missouri Valley Conference Defender of the Week. The prior week, Latenser scored the game-winning goal in SIU's 2-0 of SEMO while also adding an assist in the game. This was Southern's second straight weekly honor after Reagan Miller was named Goalkeeper of the Week for week one of the season.
Game action started on Thursday when the Salukis dominated Alabama A&M 4-0. Dana Nadda led the way with a pair of goals while Nao Katamoto and Michelle Betancourt scored as well. Assists in the game were dealt by Katamoto and Olivia Anderson. Miller made three saves in the game to secure her third straight shutout to start the season.
SIU then suffered their first loss of the season on Sunday when they dropped a game 2-0 to Southern Indiana. Miller earned the start and made one save before being relieved by Lily Murray in the second half, who made two stops.
Soccer's prolonged roadtrip comes to an end this week. On Thursday, Sep. 4, the team travels to SIUE for a 7 p.m. match. The Salukis then head to Lindenwood on Sunday, Sep. 7, for a game at 4:30 p.m.
