CARBONDALE, Ill. – A five-game homestand came to an end on Thursday for Southern Illinois women's basketball (6-12, 3-6) as they played host to Indiana State (6-12, 2-6). Despite a second-half push by the Sycamores, the Salukis held on to defeat Indiana State, 86-74, for a second-straight win.
"I'm just proud of in the first half we had 14 assists on 19 baskets," says head coach Kelly Bond-White. "They don't care who gets the shine. They all are encouraging each other; they are passing up the contested shot for the uncontested, and it's special. Because that is something that has not always shone, but it's what we preach every single day. And now that is coming to fruition and they are seeing some results out of it."

A layup from the Sycamores briefly brought the Saluki lead under 20 points, but two Kraus free throws under the 30-second mark made the lead for Southern 51-30, which is what the scoreboard read going into halftime.
Third Quarter
Southern kept the scoring going when a Tkiyah Nelson layup opened the scoring in the third. Five-straight points from the Sycamores began to cut into the Saluki lead. A Thompson free throw ended the Indiana State run, but an 8-3 Indiana State run made it 57-43, still in favor of the Salukis.
