Larry "Lightning" Warner struck on this game's first play, returning the opening kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown. The Panthers rallied to tie the game with a 17-point third quarter. With the game apparently headed for overtime, UNI fumbled at its own 38. Three plays later, K Kyle Dougherty booted the game-winning 40-yard field goal as time expired. The victory eventually provided first-year coach Dale Lennon and the Salukis with the necessary tiebreaker for the MVFC's spot in the FCS playoffs.
