Women's Swimming Wins MVC Shootout

Peoria, Ill. - The Saluki women's swimming and diving team held off Southwest MissouriState 263-235 to win their second consecutive MVC Shootout. This is the womens second victory in as many years at the annual Shootout, winning last year 244-210 over Evansville.
The relay teams were the main performers, placing first in all three relay events. The women swept the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay. Along with the relay teams their were numerous top individual perfomances, with the sophomore duo of Leane Pienaar and Brigitta Olson leading the way. Pienaar won the 500 freestyle and placed second in the 200 Individual Medley. Olson won the 100 butterfly and placed second in the 200 backstroke. Senior Brooke Radostits won the 100 backstroke to round out the first place finishers.
Freshman Ashley MacCurdy had a strong showing in the both the 200 and 500 freestyle, placing second in both events. Junior Susan Furkin placed third in the 100 breastroke with fellow junior Amy Legner finishing right behind her for fourth in the 100 breaststroke. Seniors Caty Kinnaman finished fourth in the 50 freestyle and Jenna Meckler finished fourth in the 100 freestyle to go along with a fifth place showing in the 200 freestyle.
Evansville finished third overall with a score of 209, followed by Illinios State (200), Northern Iowa (186) and Bradley (153).
The women's team will next travel to Columbia, Missouri for the Big XII Relays on October 19 before coming back home for a dual meet against Drury on October 26.
