Women's Swimming And Diving Lose Season Opener To Kansas

Carbondale, Ill. - The Saluki women's swimming and diving team suffered a season opening defeat to Big 12 powerhouse Kansas University 116.5 to 88.5 in a non-conference dual meet Friday Oct. 5.
Despite the loss, there were many top finishers for the Salukis. Sophmore Leane Pienaar led the way with a first place finish in the 500 meter freestyle (5:05.55) and second place finishes in the 200 meter Individual medley (2:12.53) and 400 meter relay. Senior Brooke Radostits won the 100 meter backstroke (59.10), placed second in the 200 meter medley relay (1:49.92) and third in the 50 meter freestyle (25.18). Senior diver Breanne Hay won the 1-Meter Dive with a score of 213.8. The Salukis swept the 400 meter relay race, placing first, second and third with the team of Jenna Meckler, Karina Belache, Brigitta Olson and Ashley MacCurdy leading the way with a time of 3:39.31.
Meckler, Olson and MacCurdy also had second place finishes. Meckler in the 200 meter freestyle (1:55.78), MacCurdy in the 500 meter freestyle, and Olson in the 100 butterfly (58.91). Olson also placed third in the 100 meter backstroke (1:00.65).
The dual meet served as a warm-up for the upcoming conference meet at the Missouri Valley Conference Shootout in Bloomington, Ill. on Oct. 13.
Notes: The Saluki men's swimming and diving team held its Maroon and White intrasquad scrimmage during the women's meet...The Carbondale Open Water Invite for Saturday Oct. 6 has been cancelled due to low water temperature...The men's season opener will be at the MVC Shootout in Bloomington, Ill.
