Women's Tennis to Play in ITA Regional Championships

The women's tennis team will head to the campus of Western Michigan this weekend to play in the ITA Regional Championships. The ITA Championships will be held on the campus of Western Michigan in Kalamazoo, MI on Oct. 23-28.
The tournament consist of a 64-person qualifying draw, that will advance eight players into the main singles draw. Consolation matches will be played in both singles draws, guaranteeing each player at least two matches. Doubles action consists of one 32-team main draw,
The ITA Regionals are the last test of the fall season for the Salukis. While the entire line up of the Salukis have had a productive fall season, senior Tana Trapani has been "stealing the spotlight" this fall. Trapani remains undefeated with a 9-0 singles record this fall as she heads in to the final tournament of the season.
Not only has Trapani been dominating the courts in singles, she also has put together an impressive 9-1 doubles record with partner senior Alejandra Blanco. The senior duo have put together a 27-5 career record at SIU.
Along with Trapani and Blanco, sophomores Zoya Honarmand and Zuzana Palovic have also played exceptionally well in doubles. The two sophomores have posted a 8-3 record this fall in No. 3 doubles and look to build on their win column this weekend at Kalamazoo. Palovic also has had a very solid season at the No. 6 singles spot as she has a 10-1 record.
The ITA Regional Championships will begin with the qualify rounds on Thursday and will last through Oct. 28. All results can be found at www.siusalukis.com
