Kalamazoo, MI. - The women's tennis team will head back to the courts for the second day of the ITA Regional Championships Friday. The qualifying rounds of the tournament will finish tomorrow, while the doubles competition is scheduled to begin.
Seniors Tana Trapani and Alejandra Blanco look to continue playing well as the senior duo is set to do battle with Hinto and Molony of Cincinnati in the opening round of doubles play tomorrow.
Trapani and Blanco look to have more success in tournament play than the Salukis had in the first day of the tournament. Alejandra Blanco was defeated in her first match 6-1, 6-0, by Brittany Reitz of Purdue. Blanco then was placed in the consolation bracket where she was again defeated 6-2, 7-5 by Leila Cehajic of Illinois. Sophomore Maria Blanco also had a rough start as she also lost her first two matches of the tournament. Maria Blanco lost to Hodgman of Iowa in a tough battle, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 and then was beaten 6-4, 6-3, in the consolation round.
The ITA Regional Championships will last through the weekend and will finish up on Oct. 27. All results can be found at www.siusalukis.com
