CARBONDALE, Ill. - The women's tennis team will welcome four schools to Carbondale as it hosts the Saluki Classic Invitational this weekend. The Saluki Classic will be held at the University Courts on Oct. 10-11.
SIU looks to continue a successful season as it participates in the first home match of the fall season. The Salukis, after coming away with three championships at the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships last weekend, look to continue to play well at this weekend's tournament.
Senior Tana Trapani has played well and looks to continue her undefeated record of 6-0 this weekend . Also undefeated this fall is sophomore Zuzana Palovic, who has started the fall season with an impressive 6-0 record and looks to continue to dominate on the court.
Trapani and Palovic have been very productive in doubles play as well. Trapani and senior teammate Alejandra Blanco have posted a 5-0 doubles record, while Palovic and sophomore Zoya Honarmand have put up a 5-1 doubles record. Trapani and Blanco moved into the 15th spot all-time in SIU doubles history last weekend with a career record of 23-4.
The schools in this year's Saluki Invitational are Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Illinois, Valparaiso, Northern Illinois, and host Southern Illinois. Tournament play will begin on Friday at the University Courts. All results can be found at www.SIUSalukis.com.
