Murray, Ky - The women's tennis team pulled out their second win of the season on Friday as they faced-off against Murray State. The 2-4 (0-0 MVC) Salukis brought two starters back to the lineup, helping clinch the victory.
"Having a couple starters back in our lineup, no matter where they are, helps us a lot," said head coach Judy Auld. "This match was a big win for our young players though. Four of our players won matches they didn't win against this team during the fall. They found out that they can beat good schools and play good at this level."
Sophomore Tana Trapani and freshman Zuzana Palovic returned to help their team as Trapani teamed with Jessica Knitter at No. 3 doubles to defeat Cheryl Graham and Jaime Lee, 8-6. It was Trapani's first action since the early spring of 2002 when she went down with a hip injury. Palovic stepped up at the No. 4 singles position to notch a win against Annette Steen, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Freshmen Maria Blanco, Zoya Honarmand, and junior Jessica Knitter also won their singles matches. The sister team of Alejandra and Maria Blanco won a No. 1 doubles.
The Salukis will head south on March 10, 11 to take on nationally ranked teams Florida Atlantic, Florida International. On March 13 they will compete against Syracuse. Results can be found on the team's official website at www.siusalukis.com.
