Carbondale, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University women's tennis team will play three more non-conference matches this weekend before they begin Missouri Valley Conference action on March 28th. The Salukis (2-7, 0-0 MVC) will play all three matches in Memphis, Tennessee beginning Friday at 2:30pm when they compete against #65 Troy State.
The Trojans are doing well, winning 3 of their last 5 matches this spring, and even defeating #44 Florida International on their way to an overall record of 3-2, but that doesn't discourage SIU head coach Judy Auld.
"We want to play the best possible teams out there," says Auld. "We aren't at full strength yet, but I've seen improvement in our players. I'd like to get us to a point where we can put our best team on the court, but I believe that the more we play against the best teams, the more we realize that we can compete with them."
The Salukis will continue their road trip Saturday by taking on the University of Memphis (9am) and St. Louis University (2:30pm). The Memphis Tigers are 7-3 on the year, while the St. Louis Billikens have an overall record of 6-8.
Results of each match can be found on the team's official website at www.siusalukis.com.
