Women's Tennis Loses To St. Loius

Carbondale, Ill. - The women's tennis team was defeated in two of its three scheduled matches this weekend in Memphis, Tenn., and fell to 2-9 on the season. The Salukis fell to both Memphis and St. Louis on Saturday.
The Salukis lost 1-6 to a tough Memphis squad, and fell 1-6 versus the Billikens. Junior Jessica Knitter was the lone winner on Saturday, winning both of her singles matches at the No. 3 spot. Knitter defeated Viktoria Gruber of Memphis, 6-3, 4-6, 10-8, in the first match on Saturday. She would continue her winning trend by downing Amy O'Handley (SLU), 6-2, 6-1, in the second match.
SIU was without the services of junior Tana Trapani, sophomore Kari Stark, and freshman Zuzana Palovic forcing head coach Judy Auld to settle for six default matches.
SIU will begin Missouri Valley Conference play on March 28 when the team travels to Evansville. Results of the match can be found on the team's official website at www.siusalukis.com.
