Women's Tennis Squeaks Past Tennessee-Martin

Martin, Tenn. - The women's tennis team improved to 4-10 on the season by defeating Tennessee-Martin on Saturday afternoon, 4-3. This is the second match in two days the Salukis have won.
In singles action SIU pulled out three of six matches, including junior Alejandra Blanco's defeat of Elanor Shearman at the No. 1 spot, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Freshman Zoya Honarmand defeated Olivia Shipley at the No. 5 spot, 6-3, 6-2, and freshman Sophie Bedard received a default at No. 6.
The Salukis won the doubles point as the Blanco sisters, Alejandra and Maria, defeated Eleanor Shearman and Ana Bakran, 8-5, at the No. 1 position. SIU won No. 3 doubles by default.
SIU will return to action when it hits the road again to face three MVC opponents in three days. The Salukis will face Creighton (Apr. 4), Drake (Apr. 5), and Northern Iowa (Apr. 6) before beginning a five match home stand to finish out the regular season.
