Carbondale, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University women's tennis team will go on a 'Southern Swing' next week as it heads to the sunshine state of Florida to compete against some current and recent nationally ranked squads during spring break.
The Salukis (2-4) will face off against #72 Florida Atlantic (7-3) on Monday (3pm ET), then will make a quick turnaround to match up against Florida International (3-8), which was recently ranked 64th, on Tuesday (2pm ET). SIU finishes off the week at noon (ET) on Thursday as it takes on Syracuse (4-4) in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
Head coach Judy Auld believes her team will enjoy some intense competition, and it has the potential to win each match if each Saluki plays at their highest level.
"We're really starting to mature and play well on the court," said Auld. "These teams we will play are solid competition and a good test for our squad. If we continue to play the same way as our last two matches, we have a decent shot at winning. Hopefully, these matches will prepare us for the beginning of conference play, and I believe it shows that we're not afraid to play the big teams."
