Women's Tennis Hits the Road to Start Spring Season

CARBONDALE, IL. - The women's tennis team will get their spring season underway as the Salukis trave east to play three matches in three days this weekend.
The Dawgs come into the spring season with confidence running high after a very solid fall season. The Salukis will be led by seniors Alejandra Blanco, Tana Trapani and Jessica Knitter. Trapani looks to continue adding victories to her impressive career record of 44-5, which places her atop SIU's singles winning percentage list at .898. Along with making noise in singles play Trapani will team up with Blanco as one of the most dominant doubles team in SIU history as they build on their career doubles record of 28-6.
While the three seniors are looked to for leadership, the Salukis will also relying on the middle of their line up to perform this spring. Sophomores Zuzana Palovic and Zoya Honarmand showed their willingness to be contenders as the two posted very solid singles marks in the fall. Not only did they start to come into their own, individualy, they also were dominant in doubles play posting a 8-3 record.
The Salukis will have their work cut out for them as they start the season off with their first six matches on the road. The Dawgs will be traveling to Cincinnati and then to the University of Miami (Oh.) on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 after their season opener at Louisville on Friday, Jan. 30.
