CARBONDALE, Ill. - The women's tennis team will begin Missouri Valley Conference match play this weekend as the Dawgs will travel to Terre Haute, Ind. to face off against Indiana State on Friday, April 2, then to Normal, Ill. to take on the Redbirds of Illinois State on Saturday, April 3 and will wrap up the weekend on Sunday, April 4 at Peoria, Ill. to compete against the Braves of Bradley.
The Salukis hit the road this weekend with hopes of improving their 6-7 record and are looking to capture their first win in the conference. SIU will have their work cut out for them as they start off their weekend by playing a very good Indiana State team that has posted a 10-8 overall record and a 1-1 record in the MVC. The Sycamores began play in the conference last weekend as they topped Bradley (7-0) but fell short against Illinois State (6-1) last Saturday.
SIU will not be able to rest to long as they will have to take on another solid MVC team Saturday as they head to Illinois State to face the Redbirds. ISU is currently on a six match win streak and has been playing excellent tennis as they have posted an impressive 8-3 overall record and are currently 2-0 in MVC play. The Redbirds made light work of Indiana State (6-1) and Bradley (7-0) last weekend to pick up their first two wins in the Valley.
The Salukis will wrap up their weekend as they head to Peoria to take on Bradley. BU looks to get back on track as they will try to snap a five match losing streak and look to get back to .500 on the year.
SIU will look to senior's Alejandra Blanco and Tana Trapani to continue to lead the Dawgs as the team starts MVC play. Trapani is just 13 wins shy of cracking the all-time top 20 leader at SIU, while Trapani and Blanco look to continue to be a dominating duo in doubles play as they have posted 37 total wins as a doubles team, placing them sixth on the all-time SIU list.
