Women's Tennis Post A Shut Out Over UNI

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Salukis picked up their fourth Missouri Valley Conference win as they defeated the Panthers of Northern Iowa 7-0 today at the SIU Arena Tennis Courts. The Salukis improve to 10-11 (4-4 MVC) with the shut out over UNI.
Senior Alejandra Blanco played brilliantly as she coasted past UNI junior Jamie Noyce with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 1 singles spot. Following her sisters lead, junior Maria Blanco defeated freshmen Agnese Pukse (6-3, 7-5) in a grueling match at the No. 2 spot.
The entire SIU lineup contributed to today's win as the Salukis took the doubles point and all six singles points. Seniors Tana Trapani and Jessica Knitter notched wins at the No. 3 and No. 4 spots while sophomore Zoya Honarmand and junior Kari Stark picked up wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots.
The Salukis are back in action tomorrow as they host their final home match of the season against the Jays of Creighton. Creighton comes into SIU with a 9-8 overall record and a 3-3 mark in MVC play. The match is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. All results can be found at www.SIUSalukis.com
