RICHMOND, KY. - In the opening weekend of the spring season the Salukis were edged out by Xavier and Eastern Kentucky, as they were handed 5-2 losses by both schools.
In their first match of the season against Xavier, the Dawgs were swept in doubles action and dropped matches in the first through four singles positions giving the Salukis their first loss of the year.
SIU tried to rebound from their defeat today as they took on Eastern Kentucky, but unfortunately were handed another 5-2 loss at the Greg Adams Tennis Center.
Junior Maria Blanco and senior Tana Trapani posted an 8-5 victory in No. 1 doubles, as they defeated Meredith Giles and Terrin Roof, but Eastern Kentucky railed and notched wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles spots earning the doubles point.
The Salukis continued to struggle as they dropped the one through four singles spots sealing the win for Eastern Kentucky.
The Salukis are back in action on Feb. 16 as they are scheduled to do battle with Northern Illinois.
