CARBONDALE, IL. - The Salukis got off to an early lead after picking up the doubles point, but a tenacious Lady Tiger squad from Memphis roared back taking four of six from SIU in singles play, as they posted a 4-3 win over the Dawgs.
After an unusual loss by junior Maria Blanco and Tana Trapani at the No. 1 doubles spot, the No. 2 team of Zoya Honarmand and Zuzana Palovic and the No. 3 team of Amanda Taillefer and Laura Bredniak, were able to notch wins, giving the Salukis an early 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
The Lady Tigers were focused coming into singles play as they came back to win all but two singles points. SIU senior Tana Trapani edged out a three set win at the No. 3 singles spot and Palovic came away with a victory over Christian Wieser in a grueling three set match, but unfortunately the two singles wins were not enough, as Memphis came away with the 4-3 victory.
The Salukis will be back in action on April 9, as they host their first conference game against Wichita State.
