CARBONDALE, IL. - The Salukis will try to continue playing well in Missouri Valley Conference play, as SIU will travel to Northern Iowa tomorrow, then to Creighton on Saturday and will wrap up their weekend in Des Moines, IA. as they take on the Drake Bulldogs on Sunday.
The Salukis head into the weekend with a 2-1 record in MVC play and are 4-9 overall on the season. SIU will begin their weekend with a match against a very solid Northern Iowa team. The Panthers are 12-3 on the year and have a 2-3 record in MVC play. UNI is lead by Mariana Muraca at the No. 1 spot, while they look to Agnese Pukse to hold down the No. 2 spot.
SIU will not have much time to rest as the Dawgs will make their way to Omaha, Neb. to take on the Creighton Bluejays on Saturday. Creighton is 9-9 on the year but has had some trouble in valley play as they are 1-4 on the season. The Saluki's Maria Blanco will do battle with Katie Chiu at the No. 1 singles spot, while SIU's Amanda Taillefer will hook up against Deidre Senders at the No. 2 spot.
Southern will wrap up their weekend with a match against the Drake Bulldogs on Sunday. Drake has been a dominating force in the Missouri Valley as they have posted a 4-1 record in MVC play. Senior Zorana Stefanovic has been leading the way for the Bulldogs as of late, as she went 3-0 in singles play at the No. 1 spot last weekend. Also swinging hot rackets is Drake's No. 3 doubles team of Cheen Alkhatib and Daria Zawislak.
