MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Southern Illinois women's tennis team lost five singles matches and the doubles point in a 6-1 loss to Memphis, Saturday morning, at Rhodes College.
While the Salukis lost the doubles point, Maria Blanco and Zuzana Palovic came away with the win in the No. 1 doubles spot.
In singles action Zoya Honarmand edged out a victory in the No. 3 spot defeating Zafir of Memphis in three sets.
"We competed extremely well today and demonstrated strong team spirit," said tennis coach Rene Vidal. "Although we're disappointed in the final result, it was a competitive college match that will help us prepare for Eastern Illinois and our upcoming MVC dual matches."
The Salukis host Eastern Illinois Monday in their first home match of the season. Indoor play begins at 3 p.m. at the Sports Blast.
