CARBONDALE, Ill. - Conference play begins this weekend for the Southern Illinois women's tennis team as they host Evansville Saturday. The Salukis (3-5) are coming off a 4-3 win as they defeated Eastern Illinois last week.
"As we've moved closer to conference play our practices have been more geared towards fine-tuning our strengths," said tennis coach Rene Vidal.
SIU was picked to finish seventh in the Missouri Valley Conference, while Evansville (6-6) was picked tenth. In their last outing the Purple Aces lost to SEMO 4-3.
"We are looking forward to beginning conference play," Vidal said. "Every team in our conference is competitive and we will focus on playing one match at a time."
The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on the University Courts. This is the first MVC match for both teams.
