CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois women's tennis team lost a close home match to Evansville Saturday 4-3 at the University Courts. The Salukis were unable to come back in their first Missouri Valley match-up after dropping the doubles point.
In number two doubles action Zuzana Palovic and Amanda Taillefer pulled off an 8-4 win.
Maria Blanco defeated Sara Wilhoite in three sets in number one singles. Taillefer also picked up a singles win in three sets as she defeated Allison Cox in the number four position.
At the five spot Laura Bredniak edged Stephanie Millis 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
"It was a great match," said tennis coach Rene Vidal. "The team put forth an excellent effort in singles play after dropping the doubles point. We just need to do a better job of executing the basics particularly on the serve."
The Salukis drop to 3-6 on the season while Evansville improves to 7-6. SIU travels to Cape Girardeau Friday to play SEMO.
