Women's tennis falls to Drake 6-1

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Drake University women's tennis team won five singles matches and the doubles point in the 6-1 victory over the Southern Illinois. Senior Maria Blanco was the only women's tennis player to notch a win in the Missouri Valley match.
Drake earned the doubles point by winning all three of the matches. Veronika Lesyova and Sarah Plowman defeated Blanco and Zuzana Palovic in the number one match 8-2. The number two match was much closer as Kari Sloboth and Allison Wilkie barely edged Amanda Taillefer and Laura Bredniak 8-7 (10-5). In the third match Zoya Honarmand and Kathleen Maher lost 8-0.
In the number one singles match Blanco defeated Lesyova in three sets 6-7 (7-1), 6-3, 10-6.
The Salukis head back out to the University courts Sunday morning at 9 a.m. to face Creighton in their final home match of the season. In the case of inclement weather the match will be moved to the indoor courts at Sports Blast.
