NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Southern Illinois women's tennis team knocked off Lipscomb in a match shortened by weather. The Salukis were able to clench a 4-0 victory over the Bisons Saturday night at the Whitworth Tennis Center before winter weather cut the match short.
The Salukis jumped out to a 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point. Sabine Tsala Mvilongo and Ame Blacketer teamed up to beat Raphalea Jann and Erin Moakler, 8-6. The young duo of Agata Skorupska and Martina Vianna Ce fell to Olivia Ellis and Emily Ellis, 8-2. Jessica Flannery and Amanda Taillefer picked up an 8-0 win over Casey Hall and Caitlin Khouri to wrap up the doubles point.
Tsala Mvilongo quickly dispatched Jann in straight sets on singles court one, 6-3, 6-2. Blacketer picked up another win for the Salukis, beating Emily Ellis, 7-5, 6-2. Jessica Flannery knocked off Olivia Ellis, 6-0, 6-0, to give SIU a 4-0 lead.
The final three singles matches were suspended due to weather, but the Salukis already had enough for the victory and extended their season record to 3-1.
The Salukis will be back in action on Friday, March 2 when they travel to Paducah, Ky. to face Murray State at 4 p.m.
