Women's Tennis knocks off IUPUI, 6-1

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois women's tennis team hosted their first home match of the season today when they took on IUPUI at the University Courts.

The Salukis came away with a 6-1 win, improving their season record to 6-4.

Martina Vianna Ce and Amanda Taillefer teamed up to defeat Andrea Burkhardt and Nikki Evans in No. 2 doubles action, 8-2. Sabine Tsala Mvilongo and Agata Skorupska clinched the doubles point with their 8-6 victory in No. 3 doubles action.

The Salukis won five of their singles matches to wrap up the win.

Tsala Mvilongo, Vianna Ce and Amanda Taillefer all wrapped up their matches in straight sets. Flannery and Ame Blacketer took their matches to three sets each, but both won and contributed to the team's win.

"We had a very good overall team performance today," said head coach Rene Vidal. "We still have many areas to improve and we'll continue to work smart this week. Evansville will be a tough opponent and we will do our best to be totally prepared to compete."

SIU will return to action on Friday, March 30 against the Purple Aces.
